Achilles to carpal tunnel: nine musculoskeletal windows captured on Suresult handhelds, with the MSK preset and the puncture guide visible on screen. Entry into high-frequency linear imaging with color and pulsed-wave Doppler starts at $2,139, software included, no subscription.
Resposta rápida
A portable MSK ultrasound machine is a high-frequency linear scanner that shows tendons, ligaments, nerves and joint surfaces at the bedside. The diagnosis and the guided injection then happen in one visit — no second appointment.
- Two frequency families cover musculoskeletal work: the L14Pro runs 10/14 MHz to 80 mm, the L20Pro runs 16/20 MHz to 40 mm.
- Puncture guides ship on every Suresult linear model, and needle enhancement ships on the L14Pro, L20Pro, L10SH, L10H, L20 and D3Ultra.
- The app holds a live image beside a frozen one, so the painful side is read against the healthy side.
- Color Doppler and pulsed-wave Doppler ship on the L14, L14Pro, L20, L20Pro, L10H, L10SH and D3Ultra, so the vessel beside the target is found first.

Achilles tendon in long axis
The fibrillar pattern of the Achilles runs the length of the screen, with the calcaneal insertion at one end. Thickness and fiber disruption are the two things this view answers.
recorded by physician reviewer Brandon Ramakko on a Suresult handheld, MSK preset with the header reading GN: 105dB, D: 20mm, DR: 80, F: H10.0 MHz
ATFL after a lateral ankle sprain
The anterior talofibular ligament is imaged between the fibula and the talus, the ligament that fails in an inversion sprain. A torn ATFL loses its taut fibrillar line.
recorded by physician reviewer Brandon Ramakko on a Suresult handheld, published as a POCUS teaching scan of the ATFL
Plantar fascia at the calcaneal origin
The plantar fascia is measured where it leaves the calcaneus, the site that thickens in plantar fasciosis. A caliper on the app puts a number on the thickness.

Medial elbow in golfer's elbow
The common flexor origin at the medial epicondyle is the target in medial epicondylitis. The scan separates tendon thickening from a partial tear at the bone interface.
recorded by physician reviewer Brandon Ramakko on a Suresult handheld, header reading 40 mm depth, 10.0 MHz, gain 105 dB
Elbow UCL, live beside a frozen frame
The ulnar collateral ligament is the throwing athlete's ligament, and the app shows the live image next to a frozen one for direct comparison. Dynamic valgus stress can be applied while scanning.
recorded by physician reviewer Brandon Ramakko on a Suresult handheld, MSK preset, 40 mm depth, 10.0 MHz, dynamic range 80Wrist and hand2 windows

Median nerve at the carpal tunnel
The median nerve sits as a honeycomb oval above the flexor tendons, between the scaphoid and the pisiform. Cross-sectional area at the tunnel inlet is the measurement that matters.
recorded by physician reviewer Brandon Ramakko on a Suresult handheld, published as a carpal tunnel syndrome evaluation with an on-screen anatomy key
Scaphoid at the radial wrist
The scaphoid cortex is followed for a step, a gap or an overlying hematoma after a fall on the outstretched hand. Ultrasound is used here when the first radiograph reads normal.

Popliteal cystic structure, measured on a D3Ultra
A German buyer labeled this frame Kniekehle li, the left popliteal fossa, and measured the anechoic structure at 29.8 mm by 15.9 mm. The header reads 10.0 MHz at 40 mm depth.

Technique basics
How the exam comes together, probe to report
Start with a high-frequency linear head. Most MSK targets sit within 40 mm of the skin. A linear array at 10 MHz or higher resolves tendon fibers and nerve fascicles that a convex head blurs.
Linear, 10/14 MHz or 16/20 MHz
Select the MSK preset and 40 mm of depth. The MSK preset opens with compound imaging on. Bring depth down toward 20 mm once the tendon or nerve fills the near field, and raise gain for a deep hip target.
D: 40 mm, F: H10.0 MHz on the app header
Scan the healthy side and freeze the comparison. The app holds one image live beside a frozen frame. Asymmetry is what separates a thickened tendon from a thick tendon, and the comparison stays on screen while scanning.
LIVE and FREEZE side by side
Plan the needle before it moves. The puncture guide draws the trajectory with a position and an angle on screen. Color Doppler marks the vessel to avoid, and needle enhancement brightens the shaft in plane.

O que considerar antes de comprar um ultrassom portátil para aquisição de imagens da MSK
Before you buy
O que verificar antes de comprar
What is the best portable MSK ultrasound machine?
For sports medicine and orthopedics the Suresult L14Pro is the strongest fit. Its 10/14 MHz head steps to 80 mm, which covers the Achilles and the rotator cuff. For superficial tendon and small-joint detail the L20Pro runs 16/20 MHz. Where MSK shares the probe with abdominal or lung work, the D3Ultra carries a linear and a convex head.
Do I need 14 MHz or 20 MHz for musculoskeletal ultrasound?
Frequency buys resolution and costs depth. A 16/20 MHz probe such as the L20Pro images from 10 mm to 40 mm, which suits finger tendons, small-joint capsules and superficial nerves. A 10/14 MHz probe such as the L14Pro reaches 80 mm, which is what a shoulder or a deep bursa needs. Most general MSK practices start at 10/14 MHz.
How much does an MSK ultrasound machine cost?
A Suresult linear scanner with color Doppler and pulsed-wave Doppler costs between $2,139 and $3,720, with software included and duties inside the checkout price. Published competing figures, before any subscription: $3,795 for the Clarius L15 HD3 and $5,395 for the Clarius L20 HD3. The Butterfly iQ3 lists at $3,899 and the GE Vscan Air CL from $4,999.
Can a handheld replace MRI for a rotator cuff question?
For a full-thickness rotator cuff tear, ultrasound is accurate. A 2015 meta-analysis in Br J Sports Med reported sensitivity and specificity above 0.90 for ultrasound, MRI and MR arthrography in full-thickness tears. Partial tears and tendinopathy showed lower sensitivity, between 0.67 and 0.83, across all three modalities. The authors concluded that considering accuracy, cost and safety, ultrasound is the best option.
Does a handheld show the needle during a guided injection?
Yes. A Suresult handheld prints the puncture guide's position and angle on screen, so the trajectory is set before the needle moves. In-plane and out-of-plane guides and a grid overlay ship on every Suresult linear model. Needle enhancement, which brightens the shaft along the beam, ships on the L14Pro, L20Pro, L10SH, L10H, L20 and D3Ultra.
Does ultrasound guidance actually improve injection accuracy?
It improved placement in a randomized trial of 184 patients with inflammatory arthritis. A trainee rheumatologist using ultrasound guidance placed 83% of injections accurately, against 66% for more senior rheumatologists guided by clinical examination. The same trial found no difference in short-term symptom outcome between the two groups.
Which model reaches the shoulder and the hip?
The L14Pro reaches 80 mm at 10/14 MHz, which covers the supraspinatus and the subacromial space in most adults. For a deeper hip the L10SH and the L10H both step to 100 mm on a 40 mm linear footprint. The D3Ultra adds a convex head that reaches 300 mm for a pericapsular hip view.
Is the image good enough for the Achilles tendon?
The Achilles sits 5 mm to 20 mm below the skin, which a 10 MHz linear array resolves at 20 mm depth. A Suresult handheld records the tendon in long axis with the fibrillar pattern running the length of the screen. Calipers in the app put a thickness number on it.
Can I compare the injured side with the healthy side?
Yes. The Suresult app holds a live image beside a frozen frame, so the contralateral side stays on screen while scanning continues. Asymmetry is what separates a pathologically thickened tendon from a naturally thick one, and the comparison is saved as one frame.
What is the real five-year cost of an MSK handheld?
Add the device price to five years of any membership fee, then add import duties where the list price is US-only. The Clarius Essentials membership at $695 per year reaches $3,475 by year five. Butterfly's Advanced plan at $420 per year reaches $2,100. Suresult scanners carry no subscription.
Can a handheld see a joint effusion or a popliteal cyst?
Yes. A popliteal cystic structure measuring 29.8 mm by 15.9 mm was recorded on a Suresult D3Ultra at 10 MHz. Anechoic fluid inside a joint recess or a bursa is one of the clearest findings on a high-frequency linear probe.
Does it export images and cine loops for the patient record?
Yes. Every Suresult scanner on this page saves stills and cine loops of 100 to 1,000 frames, and exports as DICOM, JPEG, PNG or MP4. Export is part of the included software, so no plan upgrade is needed to put a scan into the record.
Which Suresult model suits a physiotherapy or sports clinic?
A physiotherapy or sports clinic scanning tendons and ligaments daily is served by the L14Pro, which pairs 10/14 MHz with a 4-hour scanning battery. A clinic that does not need 256 elements can start with the L14 at 192 elements, and add the L20Pro later when superficial detail becomes the limit.
What frequency, depth and element count does the L14Pro give?
The Suresult L14Pro is a linear probe at 10/14 MHz with depth steps of 20, 40, 60 and 80 mm across a 25 mm footprint. It holds 256 elements on 64 channels, with B-mode, color Doppler, power Doppler, pulsed-wave Doppler and M-mode, and weighs 145 g.
