Suresult D3Ultra tri-mode wireless ultrasound probe and Suresult L20 linear probe on a white studio panel

A used handheld ultrasound is a good buy when three things move with the probe: the software, the account and enough battery or service life to matter. I priced twelve models on the used market on October 9, 2026, read every maker’s second-owner terms, and sorted them into eight worth buying and four to skip.

Evaluation scope: Deep ultrasound knowledge from clinical scanning and point-of-care teaching sits behind every buy and skip verdict on this page. I assessed the twelve used models in the table — the Butterfly iQ+, the Philips Lumify S4-1, the Butterfly iQ3, the Clarius C3 HD3, the Philips Lumify L12-4, the GE Vscan Air SL, the GE Vscan Air CL, the EchoNous Kosmos Torso-One, the Butterfly iQ (gen 1), the Fujifilm Sonosite iViz, the GE Vscan Extend R2 and the GE Vscan with Dual Probe — and the new Suresult D3Ultra and Suresult L20 against dated resale listings and each maker’s published prices, specifications, warranty and account terms on October 9, 2026.

Quick Answer

A used handheld ultrasound worth buying cost $1,650 to $5,900 on October 9, 2026: $1,650–$2,000 for a Butterfly iQ+, $2,150–$2,897 for a Philips Lumify S4-1, and $4,299 for GE’s own Vscan Air SL demo unit. My top used pick, and the best value on this page, is the Lumify S4-1: a battery-free phased-array transducer with no subscription on purchased units, at a median 21% of its $12,027.79 distributor list. My maker-backed pick is the GE demo, which GE sells with its standard 3-year warranty, $700 under the new SL. Skip the original Butterfly iQ, the Sonosite iViz, the Vscan with Dual Probe and the Vscan Extend R2: each has left its maker’s lineup or carries a service end date on a maker or FDA record. If you would rather start with a new battery and a warranty from day one, my new-unit pick is the Suresult D3Ultra at $3,200, with a 2-year warranty and no subscription.

Philips Lumify S4-1 — my top used pick and best value$2,150–$2,897, median $2,524. No battery, no subscription on purchased US units, pulsed wave Doppler, imaging to 30 cm. Confirm the serial is a purchased unit.
GE Vscan Air SL demo — maker-backed used pick$4,299 from GE’s US shop with GE’s standard 3-year warranty. Sector and linear heads, pulsed wave Doppler, no required subscription.
Suresult D3Ultra — new instead$3,200 at checkout, delivered. Convex, linear and phased arrays in one probe, pulsed wave Doppler, 2-year warranty from delivery, no subscription.

Every resale figure carries its source type and the date I read it. Cart and laptop systems sell used too; my ultrasound machine cost guide covers their price ranges.

New-unit prices for every brand sit in my handheld price guide.

What a used probe saves against its new or list price

Each bar spans the resale figures I read on October 9, 2026; the gold tick marks the new price, or the last list price where the model is no longer sold. Bars that sit on their tick save the buyer little; the Lumify S4-1 bar sits far below its $12,028 distributor list.

The ranking

Five makers ranked: eight used models worth buying

The table sorts by price; this list sorts by merit, on the same eight published criteria for every model.

Philips Lumify S4-1 phased-array ultrasound transducer with its USB cable

01 Philips Lumify S4-1 My top used pick · lowest-cost dedicated cardiac array

Resale $2,150–$2,897, median $2,524 (eBay sale; DOTmed dealer ask), read October 9, 2026 · Philips sells new by quote; Penn Care distributor list $12,027.79 · no subscription on purchased US units · battery-free phased array, 4–1 MHz, to 30 cm · 2D, Color, PW and M-mode · under 136 g · Android USB-C; iOS through the Lumify Power Module

The Lumify S4-1 takes first place because its two biggest ownership risks never reach a second owner: the transducer carries no battery to wear out, and Philips sells US units outright with no subscription. A used S4-1 sold for $2,150 on eBay and a European dealer asked €2,590 ($2,897) on DOTmed on October 9, 2026; the $2,524 median is 21% of the $12,027.79 distributor list.

It is a dedicated 4–1 MHz phased array that images to 30 cm with 2D, Color, pulsed wave Doppler and M-mode, weighs under 136 g and runs on the phone or tablet it plugs into. Registration is per display device: connect it to your own phone or tablet and register it there, the same step Philips asks at every first connection.

Philips ends its warranty when a system changes hands unless it consents in writing and certifies the unit, so the dealer’s 30 days is the cover on this route. Get the serial and confirm it is a purchased unit: subscription-sold Lumify transducers check their status with Philips every 30 days.

Same-maker options

Philips Lumify L12-4 linear-array ultrasound transducer with its cable

Philips Lumify L12-4

A battery-free 12–4 MHz linear for vascular access and MSK, with no subscription on purchased US units.

$2,897–$4,250, median $3,574 · DOTmed dealer ask €2,590 ($2,897); eBay pre-owned ask $4,250; read October 9, 2026. Membership: none on purchased US units.

Transfer: Register the transducer on each new phone or tablet; confirm the serial is a purchased unit. Warranty: Philips cover ends on transfer without its written consent; dealer 30 days.

GE Vscan Air SL dual-head wireless probe beside a tablet showing a cardiac view

02 GE Vscan Air SL Maker-backed used route

GE US shop “Vscan Air SL- Demo” $4,299 beside the new $4,999, read October 9, 2026 · eBay pre-owned ask $5,465 · GE standard 3-year warranty on the shop purchase · no required subscription; Innovations (Caption AI) $500/yr optional · sector 1.6–3.7 MHz to 24 cm plus linear 3–12 MHz · B, M, Color and PW · 218 g · 50 min scanning · iOS and Android

GE’s own demo unit takes second place because it is the one used route on this page where the maker sells the probe and puts its standard 3-year warranty behind it. At $4,299 on GE’s US shop on October 9, 2026, it sat $700 under the new SL on the same page, with remote technical support and one 45-minute remote training session in the purchase text.

The SL pairs a 1.6–3.7 MHz sector head that reaches 24 cm with a 3–12 MHz linear head in one wireless probe: heart and lung on one end, vascular access and superficial work on the other, with B, M, Color and pulsed wave Doppler and no required subscription.

GE schedules a probe battery replacement every 5 years, so ask GE for the demo unit’s manufacture date at checkout. The Caption AI guidance and automated ejection fraction sit in the optional Innovations subscription at $500 a year.

Clarius C3 HD3 wireless convex ultrasound scanner beside a phone showing an abdominal image

03 Clarius C3 HD3 No membership, battery health in the app

HD3 asks $2,850–$4,000 on eBay (C3 HD3 $2,850, L7 HD3 $3,000, L20 HD3 $4,000), read October 9, 2026 · $3,795 new (C3, L7, PA HD3); $5,395 (L20, EC7 HD3) · core imaging needs no membership; Essentials $695/yr optional, tied to the scanner · convex array · Color included; PW through Essentials · up to 60 min scanning per charge · iOS and Android

The C3 HD3 ranks third with the cleanest software handover in the pool: Clarius scanners need no membership for core imaging, and Clarius Essentials, when bought, is tied to the scanner, so every user of that scanner keeps it. Clarius also states that every scanner it has built since 2016 remains fully supported.

The built-in battery is the part to check, and Clarius supplies the tool: the in-app Battery Check reads its health, and Clarius ties battery warranty service to that same check. Run it before you pay. The $2,850 C3 HD3 ask sat $945 under the $3,795 new price.

Clarius makes its warranty to the original customer only, and its refurbished HD3 scanners, bought directly from Clarius, carry 1 year on the scanner and 6 months on the built-in battery; Clarius listed none on October 9, 2026. Pulsed wave Doppler sits in Essentials at $695 a year.

EchoNous Kosmos Torso-One phased-array probe held beside a tablet showing a cardiac Doppler trace

04 EchoNous Kosmos Torso-One Echo depth: CW, TDI and Auto EF

EchoNous refurbished Torso-One by quote, read October 9, 2026 · Kosmos Mobile package from $7.7K new · no recurring fee; licensed features register to the probe · phased 1.5–4.5 MHz, 4–30 cm · Color, Power, PW, CW and tissue Doppler · Auto EF and Auto VTI · powered by the host tablet · iPad and Android tablets on the EchoNous list

The Kosmos Torso-One ranks fourth as the deepest echo package in this comparison: Color, Power, pulsed wave, continuous wave and tissue Doppler with automated ejection fraction and VTI, on a 1.5–4.5 MHz phased array that images from 4 to 30 cm. Among the eight evaluated models, Kosmos Torso-One alone provides continuous wave and tissue Doppler.

Buy it through EchoNous. The FDA device database lists a “Kosmos Torso-One – Refurbished” model from EchoNous, which EchoNous prices by quote, and licensed features register to the probe. On October 9, 2026 no marketplace listing named a Torso-One: eBay asks of $6,500 named a first-generation Kosmos Torso and $7,500 named no generation, against the Kosmos Mobile package from $7.7K new.

EchoNous excludes products bought from used-equipment brokers and online marketplace retailers from its warranty, and the Kosmos app installs only on the tablets EchoNous lists. Budget for a listed tablet when a used probe arrives without one.

Butterfly iQ3 handheld ultrasound probe beside a phone running the Butterfly app

05 Butterfly iQ3 Newest Butterfly generation

Resale $1,750–$4,000, median $2,850 (Whatnot ask; eBay pre-owned asks; eBay sale $2,600), read October 9, 2026 · $3,899 new with a 3-year warranty · membership required: Core $299/yr or Advanced $420/yr · one chip running linear, curved and phased formats · B, M and Color in Core; PW, Power, VTI and Cardiac Output in Advanced · up to 2 h scanning · app needs iOS 18

The iQ3 is the newest Butterfly generation on the used market and ranks fifth. Its $2,850 median ask sat $1,049 under the $3,899 new price on October 9, 2026, and the whole-body chip gives one probe its linear, curved and phased formats.

Every second owner starts a new membership through Butterfly Support with the probe’s serial number: Core at $299 a year for B, M and Color, or Advanced at $420 a year for pulsed wave and Power Doppler, VTI and Cardiac Output. Three years of Advanced adds $1,260.

Butterfly warranties are non-transferable and Butterfly sells no refurbished units, so a used iQ3 carries no Butterfly warranty. Give the serial to Butterfly Support before you pay: Butterfly disables probes reported lost or stolen.

The skip list

The four used handhelds to skip

Each of these four has steady supply and an asking price that looks like a bargain. Each also carries a model-specific reason on a maker or FDA record, set out below, and that reason decides the verdict whatever the price.

Butterfly iQ (gen 1): skip, distribution ended Dec 31, 2025

$1,199–$1,495, median $1,200 · eBay asks (n=5), read October 9, 2026 · Last list $1,999 (archived Butterfly pricing page, Aug 14, 2020)

Butterfly stopped distributing the original iQ on December 31, 2025, according to the FDA device database (GUDID), and the 2018 probe carries a battery Butterfly calls not user-replaceable. eBay asks ran $1,199 to $1,495 on October 9, 2026, with a $1,200 median, against a last list price of $1,999 on Butterfly’s archived 2020 pricing page.

A second owner still buys a Core or Advanced membership through Butterfly Support to log in, and receives no warranty. Butterfly also remotely deactivates traded-in iQs 30 days after the iQ3 purchase they paid toward. For $700 more at the median, a used iQ+ keeps you on a model Butterfly still sells new.

Fujifilm Sonosite iViz: skip, Fujifilm service ends Aug 31, 2027

$2,000–$2,400, median $2,200 · eBay asks (n=2), read October 9, 2026 · New systems last ordered Feb 28, 2021 (Fujifilm MKT03507)

Fujifilm’s End of Sale Notice MKT03507 sets the end of service support for iViz systems and transducers at August 31, 2027; accessory support ended on August 31, 2024, and new systems were last ordered on February 28, 2021. eBay asks were $1,999.99 and $2,400 on October 9, 2026.

A unit bought in October 2026 has until August 31, 2027 for Fujifilm service, and spare parts such as batteries are limited to individual service events. For a tablet-based used route with years of runway, the battery-free Lumify transducers plug into your own tablet.

GE Vscan Extend R2: skip, outside GE’s lineup with a battery recall on record

R2 demo asks $3,800–$3,900 (Davis Medical); earlier Vscan Extend units $2,099–$4,700 (dealers, eBay), read October 9, 2026 · Outside GE’s current handheld lineup

The Vscan Extend sits outside GE’s current handheld lineup, which is the Vscan Air CL and SL, and Extend log-in credentials do not carry over to Vscan Air. The FDA recorded a Class 2 recall of Vscan Extend units, Z-0520-2022 and Z-0524-2022, for units that “will not power on because of depleted battery”; the recall was terminated on July 24, 2026.

Davis Medical asked $3,800 and $3,900 for R2 demo units on October 9, 2026, with a 3-year GE warranty stated on the dealer page. For $399 to $499 more, GE’s own Vscan Air SL demo at $4,299 is the current generation, with GE’s standard 3-year warranty on GE’s own page.

GE Vscan with Dual Probe: skip, 2014 hardware outside GE’s lineup

$2,495–$6,999, median $5,150 · dealer refurbished asks: Davis Medical $2,495, All States $4,500, Point Medical $5,800, MDMaxx $6,999, read October 9, 2026 · Outside GE’s current handheld lineup (2014 launch)

The Vscan with Dual Probe sits outside GE’s current US handheld lineup, which is the Vscan Air CL and SL, and the hardware dates from 2014 (the original single-probe Vscan from 2010). The FDA device database ended the original Vscan v1.2 software release on March 31, 2023 and the Vscan Gateway PC software that Vscan units use on March 31, 2022.

Dealer-refurbished units asked $2,495 to $6,999 on October 9, 2026, from Davis Medical at $2,495 with a 90-day warranty up to MDMaxx at $6,999, and three eBay listings at $1,650–$1,799 ended unsold. For a GE handheld with current software, buy the Vscan Air CL at the low end of its asks or GE’s own SL demo.

Before you pay

Seven checks before paying for a used handheld

The account, battery and app checks come from each maker’s own support pages and terms, read October 9, 2026; the dropout scan is a bench test any seller can run on a call. Run all seven before money changes hands; a seller who refuses the serial or a test scan has answered the question for you.

  1. Butterfly: clear the serial with Butterfly Support. A second owner buys the membership with the probe’s serial number, Butterfly disables probes reported lost or stolen, and traded-in iQs are deactivated 30 days after the iQ3 purchase they paid toward. Send the serial before you pay.
  2. Lumify: confirm a purchased unit. Ask Philips whether the serial was sold outright. Subscription-sold Lumify transducers check their status with Philips every 30 days; purchased US units carry no subscription.
  3. Vscan Air: watch the seller unregister it. GE’s handover is two steps: the seller unregisters the probe in the app, then you register it and become the owner of record. Subscriptions are linked to the probe, so ask what is attached.
  4. Clarius HD3: run the in-app Battery Check. Clarius ties warranty service on the HD3’s built-in battery to this check, which makes it the most direct read of a used battery’s health in this comparison.
  5. Battery runtime against the maker’s figure. Scan continuously from a full charge and time it: GE specifies 50 minutes for the Vscan Air, Butterfly 144 minutes for the iQ+ and up to 2 hours for the iQ3.
  6. Element dropout. Image a uniform target, such as a gel pad, at full depth and sweep slowly. A dead element shows as a dark vertical line that stays in place as the probe moves.
  7. Phone or tablet, and a return window. The Butterfly app needs iOS 18; the Clarius and Vscan Air apps run from iOS 15; the Kosmos app installs only on EchoNous-listed tablets. Get the seller’s return window in writing; the dealer warranties on file run from 30 days to 1 year, and a return window is a separate term.
Who sells used units

Maker demo units, dealers and marketplaces

The channel decides the warranty more than the model does. Three channels carried the listings I priced on October 9, 2026.

Maker demo and refurbished unitsGE’s US shop sells a Vscan Air SL demo at $4,299 with GE’s standard 3-year warranty. Clarius covers refurbished HD3 scanners for 1 year and their built-in batteries for 6 months when bought directly, and Philips gives Diamond Select Lumify systems a 12-month warranty; neither listed a used handheld that day. EchoNous registers refurbished Kosmos units with the FDA and prices them by quote. Butterfly runs a trade-in, up to $1,500 toward an iQ3, and sells no refurbished units.
Medical equipment dealersDealers attach their own terms: 30 days on the DOTmed Lumify listings, 60 days on a Davis Medical refurbished Vscan Extend, 90 days at Davis Medical and Probo Medical, 6 months at All States Medical, and 1 year on an Equipamos Vscan Air CL demo. A dealer warranty is a contract with the dealer, not the maker.
MarketplaceseBay, Whatnot and DOTmed private sellers set the low end of most ranges on this page. Maker cover stays behind: Butterfly’s warranty is non-transferable, Clarius covers the original customer only, and EchoNous excludes marketplace and broker purchases. Ask for a live test scan before you pay.

New instead

New instead: the Suresult D3Ultra and L20, with the terms in your name

A new Suresult probe settles the three questions every used listing leaves open. The 2-year warranty runs from the date of delivery in your name, the full app runs with no subscription, and a 30-day worry-free trial covers the first month. My new-unit picks for the buyer on this page are the D3Ultra for whole-body work and the L20 for superficial work.

Rival figures read October 9, 2026; Suresult prices are current checkout prices. My five-year ownership cost comparison runs the same arithmetic over five years for new units.

Suresult’s checkout price is the delivered price, with shipping, customs clearance, duties and applicable taxes already in it. Orders ship within 24 hours on business days and arrive 1–7 business days after shipment in Europe, North America and Oceania, 3–10 in Asia, Africa and South America. Terms in full: warranty policy · return and exchange policy.

Suresult D3Ultra wireless probe with convex, linear and phased arrays, studio photograph

Suresult D3Ultra

New · $3,200 at checkout, delivered with duties and taxes paid · convex 3.2/5.0 MHz to 300 mm, linear 7.5/10 MHz to 100 mm and phased 3.2/5.0 MHz to 300 mm in one probe · B, M, Color, Power and PW Doppler · 27 on-screen measurements · 263 g · 2 h continuous scanning, wireless charging · iOS, Android and Windows · no subscription · FDA-certified (FDA 510(k) K211321) with indications for obstetric, gynecologic and general abdominal imaging; ISO, MDR/CE, TGA and ANVISA records available for review

For the buyer weighing a used Butterfly or Vscan Air, the D3Ultra is my new-unit answer: convex, linear and phased arrays in one wireless probe, so abdomen, lung, vascular access and cardiac views run on one device, with pulsed wave and Power Doppler in the purchase and nothing to renew.

The battery starts at day one: 2,800 mAh, 2 hours of continuous scanning and a wireless charger in the box, covered by the same 2-year warranty as the rest of the probe. The app runs on iOS, Android and Windows and exports JPEG, PNG, MP4 and DICOM.

For the buyer pricing a used Lumify L12-4 or a Clarius linear for superficial work, the L20 is my new-unit answer: a 16/20 MHz linear array focused on the first 40 mm, where skin, tendon, small joints, superficial vessels and injection targets sit, with Color, Power and pulsed wave Doppler included.

It weighs 147 g and charges by USB or wirelessly. Like the D3Ultra, it ships with a 2-year warranty from delivery and a free app with no subscription on iOS, Android and Windows.

Who should not buy used

Buy new when a used offer sits near the new price, when you want a battery with its full service life ahead of it, or when the model you want carries a membership or a warranty that stays with its first owner. For a maker-backed used purchase, GE’s Vscan Air SL demo is the route; for everything else on the used list, the checks above decide the deal.

The rules behind the ranking

How I scored eight models and ranked five makers

I scored every worth-buying model from 0 to 10 on eight criteria and weighted each by how much it decides a used purchase. The weighted total, out of 100, ranks each maker’s highest-scoring model once; sibling models keep their scores inside that maker’s card. Money carries 35 points, ownership risk 50, supply 5 and clinical reach 10.

  1. C1 · Resale value · weight 20. Score = 12.5 × the discount against the new or reference price (1 minus the median of each unit price divided by that unit’s new or reference price), capped at 10.
  2. C2 · Second-owner software cost · weight 15. Score = 10 × (1 minus the three-year cost of the membership a second owner must buy to scan, divided by $1,500), floored at 0.
  3. C3 · Transfer path · weight 10. 10 when the maker sells the used unit itself; 9 when the maker documents the handover and core use needs no paid account; 7 when licensed features register to the probe; 6 when the second owner must buy a membership through maker support with the serial.
  4. C4 · Support runway · weight 15. 10 for a model its maker sells new on 2026-10-09 and lists in commercial distribution in the FDA GUDID; minus 1 when the current app needs iOS 18 or runs only on maker-listed tablets; minus 1 when a newer generation of the same line is on sale.
  5. C5 · Battery and service life · weight 10. 10 for a battery-free probe; 7 for a built-in battery with a maker battery-health check or a published maker replacement schedule; 6 for a built-in battery with no published health check or maker replacement schedule; minus 2 when the line’s first units reach the maker’s stated 5-year service life by 2026.
  6. C6 · Warranty route for this buyer · weight 15. 10 for a maker warranty of 3 years or more on the used unit; 5 for a dealer warranty of 1 year on a demo unit; 4 for a maker refurbished channel with unpublished terms; 3 for a dealer warranty of 30 to 90 days; 1 when the maker warranty covers the original customer only and no refurbished unit is listed.
  7. C7 · Supply depth · weight 5. 2 points per priced listing in the ledger (items and dated snippets), plus 4 when the maker lists a priced used unit and 2 when the maker registers refurbished models without a public price; capped at 10.
  8. C8 · Clinical reach for the money · weight 10. Arrays score 4 for a whole-body chip running linear, curved and phased formats, 3 for two dedicated heads and 2 for one array; Doppler adds Color 2, PW 2 (1 when it sits behind an optional paid tier), CW 1 and TDI 1; automated ejection fraction included adds 1; capped at 10.

The skip gate. A decisive fact on a dated maker or FDA record sends a model to the skip list whatever its price: an app its maker stopped updating, a subscription lock-in that does not transfer, a battery or service end date, or a model withdrawn from its maker’s lineup. The four skips each carry at least one.

Used handheld ultrasound questions buyers ask

How much does a used handheld ultrasound cost?

The models I rate worth buying ran $1,650 to $5,900 on October 9, 2026: a used Butterfly iQ+ $1,650–$2,000, a Philips Lumify S4-1 $2,150–$2,897 and a GE Vscan Air CL $3,900–$5,900. EchoNous prices refurbished Kosmos Torso-One units by quote.

How much is a refurbished handheld ultrasound?

GE’s US shop listed a Vscan Air SL demo unit at $4,299 on October 9, 2026, with GE’s standard 3-year warranty. Dealer-refurbished GE Vscan units asked $2,495 to $6,999; Davis Medical, Probo Medical and All States Medical attach 60-day to 6-month warranties.

Does a used Butterfly iQ need a membership?

Yes. A second owner buys a membership through Butterfly Support with the probe’s serial number: Core at $299 a year or Advanced at $420. Butterfly warranties are non-transferable, and Butterfly disables probes reported lost or stolen.

Does the warranty transfer to a second owner?

For most makers here, no: Butterfly’s warranty is non-transferable, Clarius covers the original customer only, Philips ends cover on transfer without its written consent, and EchoNous excludes broker and marketplace purchases. GE sells its Vscan Air SL demo with GE’s standard 3-year warranty.

Which used handhelds should I avoid?

My four skips: the original Butterfly iQ (distribution ended December 31, 2025), the Sonosite iViz (Fujifilm service ends August 31, 2027), the GE Vscan with Dual Probe (2014 hardware outside GE’s lineup) and the GE Vscan Extend R2 (outside GE’s lineup, battery recall on record).

How long does a handheld ultrasound last?

GE states a 5-year service life for the Vscan Air and schedules a battery replacement every 5 years, and Butterfly states 5 years for the iQ+ probe. Philips Lumify and EchoNous Kosmos Torso-One transducers carry no battery and draw power from the host device.

Where are used handheld ultrasounds sold?

Three channels: maker demo or refurbished units, such as GE’s US shop; medical dealers, such as Davis Medical, Probo Medical, All States Medical and KeeboMed; and marketplaces such as eBay, Whatnot and DOTmed. GE’s demo carries GE’s standard 3-year warranty.

Is a used handheld worth it compared with a new one?

Yes when the discount is real and the terms move with the probe: my top pick, the Lumify S4-1, sells at a median 21% of its distributor list. A used Vscan Air CL pays off near its $3,899.99 low end, not at GE’s new price.

Which used handheld costs the least?

Among the eight I rate worth buying, the Butterfly iQ+: $1,650 to $2,000 on October 9, 2026, plus a Core membership at $299 a year. The original Butterfly iQ asks less, $1,199 to $1,495, and is on my skip list.

Can an individual clinician buy a used handheld ultrasound?

Yes. Butterfly sells the membership a used probe needs to a licensed practitioner with the serial, and GE’s handover registers a Vscan Air to its new owner. For use at home, see my home-use ultrasound guide.

How this page was built

Methodology

I priced every model on October 9, 2026 from current asks and recorded sales: Google Shopping offers, dealer pages (DOTmed, Davis Medical, Probo Medical, KeeboMed, All States Medical, Equipamos) and maker channels, 104 listings in the first read, and a second read the same day that replaced closed listings. eBay figures come from Shopping offers and search-index snippets of eBay item pages and are labeled as asking or sold. Each quoted price range keeps one generation: iQ and iQ+, Vscan Extend and Extend R2, and Kosmos Torso and Torso-One never share a range. New-unit prices come from the maker’s own store where the maker publishes one, and from a named distributor for Philips Lumify, which Philips sells by quote. Every warranty, membership and transfer term comes from the maker’s own pages, documents and support articles, and each status date from the FDA device database (GUDID), the FDA recall database or the maker’s own notice.

I scored the eight worth-buying models on the eight criteria in the ranking rules above. Each maker gets one ranked slot, represented by its highest-scoring model; sibling models sit inside that card with their own prices. The four skips passed the skip gate on a dated maker or FDA record and are not scored. I left out models with one priced unit or none (Clarius first-generation and HD second-generation scanners, Mindray TE Air, Exo Iris, Healcerion Sonon, Vave), the Philips Lumify C5-2, which sold by quote only, and systems outside the phone-or-tablet handheld frame (Siemens Acuson Freestyle, Interson SeeMore, Mobisante MobiUS).
