Patient with right sided flank pain and CVA tenderness with hx of kidney stones. U/S was used in right flank showing moderate hydronephrosis allowing prompt referral to urology for definitive management of suspected obstructive kidney stone which was later confirmed. Very helpful to have the portable ultrasound to diagnose cause of pain, recognize hydro, and allow for prompt appropriate referral.

Where this probe is the wrong tool. Nothing on the D2LM reaches past 160 mm, so deep adult abdominal and third-trimester obstetric scanning are outside it — if you need that reach, take the C5SH convex probe, which publishes 90-300 mm.

Where the D2LM wins: The D2LM splits the job across two purpose-cut heads instead of one aperture: 10/12 MHz on the linear face for superficial detail, 5/7 MHz with an R20 tip on the micro-convex for a small contact face out to 160 mm. Where a rival wins: Depth is where the rivals win. The Vscan Air SL publishes a sector array reaching 24 cm and the iQ3 publishes presets to 30 cm; the D2LM's micro-convex stops at 160 mm. If you want one device that also covers deep abdominal depth, either of those publishes further. The iQ3 also spans 1-12 MHz on a single chip, so there is one face to learn and one lens to clean rather than two.

Inside 160 mm, yes. Past it, no. A large adult abdomen or a third-trimester obstetric scan needs a full convex head — the C5SH publishes 90-300 mm on 192 elements and 64 channels.
