Risposta rapida
A vascular access ultrasound machine is a high-frequency linear scanner used to find veins, guide the needle in real time, and confirm line placement.
- Short-axis / long-axis switching: vein centred in short axis, needle visible in long
- On-screen needle guides: in-plane and out-of-plane, drawn over live imaging
- Color Doppler: artery and vein settled before the stick

What it does all day
The four sticks, on one handheld

Peripheral IV, difficult veins
When veins can neither be felt nor seen, 7.5/10 MHz shows the forearm's superficial network and the catheter's path into it.

PICC and midline placement
The basilic vein mapped before the stick: diameter, depth and flow checked with Color Doppler, then tracked in real time.

Central lines: IJ access
The internal jugular beside the carotid in one view; Doppler confirms which is which before the needle moves.

Needle visualization
In-plane guidance keeps the tip visible from skin to lumen: the difference between one stick and three.
Technique basics
How an ultrasound-guided IV comes together
Survey in short axis.Sweep the forearm; veins compress under light pressure; arteries pulse and stay open.
Forearm survey
Confirm flow with color.A short color Doppler check separates artery from vein before the tourniquet goes on.
Color flow, on the L20Pro
Advance in long axis.Rotate ninety degrees so the needle tip stays visible from skin to lumen.
Long-axis needle view
Freeze, measure, document.One-key freeze with depth and diameter calipers records the vessel for the line note.

The evidence for ultrasound-guided vascular access
- Recommended by NICE since 2002.
UK national guidance prefers ultrasound for internal jugular central line insertion.
NICE TA49, 2002 - More first-pass success.
Cochrane review: better first-attempt success and fewer complications than landmark technique.
Brass et al., Cochrane 2015 - Wins on difficult IVs.

Buyer reports
From the people placing lines
“While our nurses are fantastic at IV sticks, some patients have more difficult to find or stick veins. This ultrasound tool is one that we hope will promote more comfort, ease, and enjoyment for our IV therapy!”
“As a practitioner, this ultrasound has become my preferred device for guiding vascular and joint procedures, and it is also excellent for nerve blocks. The real-time imaging is sharp and precise, which makes these procedures genuinely more efficient. It has also proven very useful for guiding AV fistulas.”
Measured on this hardware
Real buyer captures, with the calipers on screen
“Intima-media thickness measured at the distal common carotid artery. Median nerve area measured at the wrist.”
— Enrique Botia Paniagua, neurologist · from his buyer report, captured on his D3Ultra
Intima-media thickness, measured
Distal common carotid with on-screen calipers. The follow-up number is saved into the record.

Color flow before the stick
Artery and vein settled in seconds on the L20Pro, the same check as the clinic video above.

Depth and diameter, documented

Cosa considerare prima di acquistare un ecografo portatile per l'accesso vascolare
Before you buy
What to check before buying a vascular access ultrasound machine
Is ultrasound-guided IV insertion actually worth it?
Whether you call it a vascular access ultrasound system or a handheld vein finder with imaging, the case is the same: seeing the vein and the needle turns multiple attempts into one, especially on patients whose veins can neither be felt nor seen.
Short axis or long axis for IV placement?
Short axis finds the vein and centres it; long axis keeps the whole needle in view during advance. The L10T's bi-plane mode shows both at once, which is exactly why it exists.
What frequency is best for vein imaging?
7.5/10 MHz covers forearm, upper-arm and jugular targets to 100 mm. Very superficial pediatric or hand veins benefit from the 16/20 MHz L20Pro; a clinic that mixes access with deeper MSK work is better served by the L14Pro at 10/14 MHz, or the three-format D3Ultra.
What is the real five-year cost?
Add the device price to five years of any membership fee, then add import duties if the list price is US-only. The comparison table above does that math per brand.
Can nurses use a handheld ultrasound for IV access?
Yes; ultrasound-guided peripheral IV is a nursing skill in many hospitals, and the short-axis technique is teachable in a single session. The on-screen guides are drawn for exactly this use.
Does Color Doppler tell artery from vein?
Yes: pulsatile flow and non-compressibility mark the artery, and Doppler makes the flow direction visible before the needle moves. It ships as standard on every scanner on this page.
Do these scanners work for PICC lines?
The basilic and brachial veins PICC teams target sit within the 7.5/10 MHz depth range; the L10SH's 64-channel imaging is the one line teams choose for daily mapping.
Can it document the line for the record?
Freeze, measure diameter and depth, and export JPEG, MP4, PNG or DICOM. The exam stores locally, with no cloud fee gate, so the line note carries the image.

FAQ
Magnetic tracking uses a sensor near the probe. As you insert the needle, the software detects its path and displays a live trajectory overlay, even when the needle isn’t clearly visible on ultrasound. This feature is available on the L10H sonda.
Yes. All Suresult devices come with a standard two-year warranty, which covers manufacturing defects, technical support, and software updates. Extended plans are available to three or five years, adding two-way expedited repair shipping, priority support, and an instant loaner or replacement scanner to minimise clinical downtime.
If you're already familiar with basic ultrasound or vascular access, you'll be comfortable with Suresult almost immediately. For new users, a basic ultrasound workshop or online POCUS course provides enough knowledge to begin performing guided line placements. The Suresult support team can also assist with onboarding and tutorials.
