How the exam comes together, probe to report
Match the head to the ICU question.Cardiac windows sit between the ribs, so they need the phased sector. The convex head reaches the abdomen and the caval window, and the linear head images the pleural line and the neck vessels.

Start with the lung in respiratory failure.Set gain and depth on the pleural line first. Anterior zones separate A-lines from diffuse B-lines, and posterior zones find effusion and consolidation.

Read the heart, then the caval window.The phased head shows pump function and pericardial fluid at 160 mm to start. The convex head then measures caval diameter and collapse before a fluid bolus is committed.
