My default mixed-clinic purchase is Suresult D3Ultra at $3,200: three physical arrays—convex, linear and phased—192 elements, 64 channels, Doppler modes, iOS/Android/Windows apps and no required core-software subscription. If cost controls the decision, D3Pro at $2,900 and D3L at $2,600 keep the three-array route. If the job is narrowly superficial, L20Pro or L14Pro is the better specialist purchase.

The strongest external alternatives divide by ownership model. Butterfly iQ3 starts at $3,899 but requires a plan, making its minimum Core first year $4,198. GE Vscan Air CL/SL each publish $4,999 with optional software. Clarius starts at $3,795 plus an Essentials choice at purchase. Exo Iris is $5,499 in the current direct store; Exo separately lists a no-login/no-subscription tier, while the current direct-store package states that its included Exo Works Connect plan renews at $500 yearly after the current plan expires. Mindray now publishes US starting prices of $4,499 for TE Air e5M and $6,699 for the TE Air i3P Package. Philips and EchoNous remain quote-led.

Reviewer scope: Fernando Mariz, MD and Jailyn Avila, MD are the two independent device evaluators for this comparison. With deep ultrasound knowledge across clinical scanning and POCUS education, the evaluation scope covers every exact model in the table: Suresult D3Ultra, Suresult D3Pro, Suresult D3L, Butterfly iQ3, Vscan Air CL by GE, Clarius C3 HD3, Suresult L20Pro, Clarius L20 HD3, Suresult L14Pro, Clarius L15 HD3, Vscan Air SL by GE, Exo Iris, Mindray TE Air e5M, Vave Universal, Philips Lumify L12-4, Philips Lumify C5-2, Philips Lumify S4-1, Mindray TE Air i3P, Vave Phased and EchoNous Kosmos. This is a purchase-decision comparison, not a claim that one probe is universally best for every clinical job.

How the buyer order is set

Six criteria, published before the detailed reviews

I order the cards for practical purchasing rather than universal image-quality superiority. A broad array route ranks early for a mixed clinic; a specialist can still be the correct purchase when the clinical job is narrow.

Quick List

Choose the route before choosing the brand

Mixed clinicD3Ultra → D3Pro → D3LThree physical arrays. Move down the Suresult tiers when price matters more than channel/element hardware.
Facial / very superficialL20Pro or Clarius L2020 MHz class. Buy for a shallow job, not because the frequency number sounds universally better.
MSK / vascular linearL14Pro or Clarius L15More depth than the facial specialists; no abdomen or cardiac physical array.
Convex firstGE CL, Clarius C3 or Lumify C5-2Dedicated curved-array or curved-plus-linear routes for abdomen, OB and general imaging.
Cardiac firstGE SL, Mindray i3P or Vave PhasedPhased/sector routes. Do not assume they replace a linear access or MSK probe.
Software ecosystem firstButterfly, Exo or KosmosWorkflow and AI can matter more than array count; price the required plan and exact configuration.
Probe is not automatically a replacement transducerThe systems here include their own electronics/app workflow. A console-specific transducer needs the exact connector and system compatibility.
Quote-only is not zero costPhilips and EchoNous require a current sales quote. The absence of a public price is part of the comparison.
Sticker price is not ownership costRequired plans, compatible host hardware, cloud/DICOM tools, warranty and regional shipping can change the real total.

What each exact model does well—and what should stop the wrong buyer

Suresult D3Ultra ultrasound probe

01Suresult D3Ultra Broadest Suresult route

My first recommendation for a clinic that wants abdominal, superficial and cardiac work from one handheld purchase. Its main buying advantage is three physical arrays, transparent live pricing and no required core-software plan; a clinic that scans one narrow task all day can still prefer a smaller specialist probe.

Suresult D3Pro ultrasound probe

02Suresult D3Pro Value 192-element tri-mode

D3Pro keeps the same three-array purchasing logic while reducing the current store price. I would choose it when broad coverage matters more than D3Ultra’s 64-channel hardware; it is not the right downgrade if the buyer specifically wants the highest Suresult tri-mode channel count.

Suresult D3L ultrasound probe

03Suresult D3L Lowest-cost Suresult tri-mode

D3L is the budget-led answer when a buyer wants convex, linear and phased routes in one body without accepting a recurring app bill. Its constraint is explicit: 128 elements and 32 channels put it below the D3Pro and D3Ultra hardware tiers.

Butterfly iQ3 ultrasound probe

04Papillon iQ3 Strong ecosystem, required plan

Butterfly remains the clearest external single-probe reference. The hardware number is not the checkout decision: Core makes year one $4,198 and Advanced annual makes it $4,319. Buyers should compare that recurring ecosystem cost against the convenience of one chip-based probe.

Vscan Air CL by GE ultrasound probe

05Vscan Air CL by GE Premium convex + linear

Vscan Air CL is a strong two-array purchase when GE’s service ecosystem and a three-year warranty outweigh the need for a dedicated phased array. Its $4,999 base is clear, but optional software can move a three-year configuration to $6,298 or $7,378.

Clarius C3 HD3 ultrasound probe

06Clarius C3 HD3 Dedicated premium convex

C3 HD3 is the focused convex choice in this field. Its first-year annual-plan total is $4,490, and the one-time Essentials route reaches $6,295. That can be rational for buyers who value the Clarius software ecosystem, but it does not replace a linear or phased probe.

Suresult L20Pro ultrasound probe

07Suresult L20Pro High-frequency specialist

L20Pro is the first specialist route when very superficial resolution matters more than whole-body coverage. The 16/20 MHz, 10–40 mm specification is a buying boundary, not a marketing footnote: it should not be chosen for adult abdominal or routine cardiac work.

Clarius L20 HD3 is the named-brand 20 MHz benchmark for facial work. Its real first-year annual-plan total is $6,090; three-year prepaid is $7,180. Buyers are paying for the specialty software ecosystem and brand route, not broader array coverage.

Suresult L14Pro ultrasound probe

09Suresult L14Pro Deeper linear specialist

L14Pro trades peak frequency for a broader 20–80 mm linear working range. I would take it over a 20 MHz specialist when deeper superficial targets are common, but not when the purchase must include abdomen or cardiac arrays.

Clarius L15 HD3 ultrasound probe

10Clarius L15 HD3 Premium all-purpose linear

L15 HD3 is the more versatile Clarius linear option than the L20. It reaches 7 cm and adds specialist software tools, but its $4,490 first-year annual-plan total still buys one physical array rather than a whole-body scanner.

Vscan Air SL by GE ultrasound probe

11Vscan Air SL by GE Premium cardiac + linear

Vscan Air SL is the GE route when cardiac imaging replaces convex work in the purchase brief. It is a clearer match to a cardiac-plus-access clinic than the CL, but a general abdominal buyer should notice that the second head is sector, not curved.

14Vave Universal No-plan dual-purpose route

Vave Universal is the closest external no-subscription counterpoint to the plan-heavy platforms. The app access and three-year warranty are clear; the buyer must still understand the architecture—it combines phased and linear functions, not three physical arrays.

Philips Lumify L12-4 ultrasound probe

15Philips Lumify L12-4 Institutional wired linear

Lumify L12-4 remains relevant because some buyers prefer a wired transducer from a large enterprise vendor. Philips does not expose a current official US price on the product page, so it cannot be compared honestly on sticker price; compatible host hardware and the cable are part of the deployment decision.

Philips Lumify C5-2 ultrasound probe

16Philips Lumify C5-2 Institutional wired convex

Lumify C5-2 is the Philips curved-array purchase, not a multipurpose physical-array bundle. It is a sensible institutional route when Philips deployment matters, but price transparency is weaker than direct stores and the buyer still needs separate transducers for linear and cardiac work.

Philips Lumify S4-1 ultrasound probe

17Philips Lumify S4-1 Institutional wired sector

Lumify S4-1 is the cardiac member of the Philips family. It should be compared with phased routes, not with high-frequency linear probes. The buying friction is the same as the other Lumify probes: quote-only pricing and a wired, host-compatibility-dependent setup.

Mindray TE Air i3P ultrasound probe

18Mindray TE Air i3P Premium wireless phased

TE Air i3P is the focused Mindray cardiac/FAST route. The current official US package starts at $6,699 with no required subscription. Its IP68 build and direct warranty are strong purchasing facts, while AutoEF/TDI and other advanced functions can depend on configuration. I would not buy it for routine MSK or vascular access.

Vave Phased ultrasound probe

19Vave Phased No-plan cardiac specialist

Vave Phased is the clearest external no-plan cardiac specialist at a published $3,500. It avoids a recurring software bill, but that low price does not turn a phased probe into a linear one; MSK and access work require a different route.

EchoNous Kosmos ultrasound probe

20EchoNous Kosmos Configurable AI platform

EchoNous Kosmos is a platform purchase rather than one simple SKU. In the Kosmos Mobile configuration compared here, Torso-One and Lexsa together broaden coverage, and the five-year probe warranty is attractive; pricing and AI features depend on the exact configuration. The “under $21K” Kosmos Plus statement is not a probe-only price and is not used here.

Compatibility before checkout

A $4,000 probe that cannot join the intended workflow is the expensive option

Before I approve a purchase, I match five concrete items: physical array and footprint, frequency/depth, supported phone/tablet/OS, DICOM/export path, and whether the warranty applies in the destination country. Philips Lumify adds a wired host-compatibility question; Butterfly and Exo add plan/OS questions; Clarius adds the selected Essentials term; quote-led systems require a written configuration.

Ask for the exact SKU“Lumify,” “TE Air” and “Vscan Air” are families, not one interchangeable probe.
Separate required from optionalDo not treat optional collaboration tools as mandatory, or mandatory scanning membership as optional.
Put the limitation in the purchase orderWrite the maximum depth, missing physical array, host restriction or plan renewal beside the price.

Purchase questions

Ultrasound probe FAQ

How much does an ultrasound probe cost in 2026?

Published new-system prices in this comparison run from $3,500 for Vave Phased to a $6,699 starting price for the Mindray TE Air i3P Package, before required or optional software. Suresult prices render live from each product record. Philips and EchoNous remain quote-led, so I label them quote only instead of inventing a number.

Is an ultrasound probe the same as a transducer?

In everyday purchasing, probe and transducer are often used interchangeably. The crucial distinction is commercial: a replacement transducer normally connects only to a compatible console, while the handheld systems here combine the probe with their own electronics, app and host-device workflow.

Can any ultrasound probe work with any ultrasound machine?

No. Connector, firmware, supported host device, operating system and software licensing all matter. A Philips Lumify transducer is not a generic USB probe for any console, and a conventional cart transducer cannot be assumed to work with a handheld app. Match the exact model and supported system before purchase.

Which probe covers abdominal, cardiac and superficial imaging?

The Suresult D3Ultra, D3Pro and D3L use physical convex, linear and phased arrays in one body. Butterfly iQ3 and Exo Iris pursue broad coverage through chip-based architectures. Each route makes different tradeoffs in price, channel/element hardware, host platform and recurring software cost.

Do wireless ultrasound probes require a subscription?

Not always. The five highlighted Suresult models, GE base hardware, Vave and current Mindray routes do not require a core subscription. Butterfly requires membership and Clarius requires an Essentials choice at purchase. Exo lists a no-subscription base Iris; a separate current direct-store package with Exo Works Connect states a $500 yearly renewal after its plan expires. Optional cloud or AI tools may add cost even when scanning itself has no required plan.

Should I buy one 3-in-1 probe or separate specialist probes?

Buy the broad 3-in-1 route when one clinician or mixed clinic routinely moves among deep, superficial and cardiac work. Buy a specialist when one job dominates: 16/20 MHz facial work, a 5–15 MHz MSK/vascular linear workflow, or a dedicated phased cardiac service. One-device convenience should not override frequency, depth or footprint.

Which Suresult ultrasound probe should a mixed clinic start with?

My default mixed-clinic recommendation is D3Ultra because it combines physical convex, linear and phased arrays with 192 elements, 64 channels, Doppler modes and no required core-app subscription. Choose D3Pro or D3L when price is the controlling constraint; choose L20Pro or L14Pro only when linear superficial work is the actual daily job.

Methodology

How I researched the comparison

I began with current US search-demand data for ultrasound probe, then separated transactional buying intent from the existing educational and class-specific pages. I checked the current Suresult product inventory, read each manufacturer’s current official US product/pricing route, reconciled required and optional software, and rejected stale third-party prices when the manufacturer exposes a current official answer.

I retained every current external model that changes a buyer decision and removed redundant regional SKUs. Each external card uses an exact-model product asset from the owner-controlled/Suresult-hosted library plus a distinct exact-model YouTube video whose oEmbed returned HTTP 200 on August 13, 2026. Videos demonstrate interface or workflow; they do not decide comparative performance. Prices are a dated snapshot; Suresult amounts render live.

Tell me the daily scans, not the brand you already know

Share the three most common examinations, target depth, preferred phone/tablet and whether recurring software is acceptable. I will recommend D3Ultra, a specialist probe, an external route—or neither.
