L20 offers 16 and 20 MHz settings with published depths of 10, 20, 30 and 40 mm. The current U.S. store lists B, M, Color and Power Doppler, while PW Doppler, local/cloud storage and DICOM appear with Essentials. The current compatibility floor is iOS 16+ and Android 13+. That is a coherent specialist workflow, especially for buyers who already value the Clarius platform.
The current scanner price is $5,395. Essentials is displayed at $695 per year, with a $2,500 one-time selection also shown. Clarius L15 HD3 publishes a 5–15 MHz band, depth up to 7 cm and a 50 mm field of view. It reaches the 15 MHz minimum recommended in the 2025 modified Delphi consensus for learning and routine diagnostic ultrasound in the specific cosmetic-filler context. Meeting that frequency threshold does not make every 15 MHz system equivalent, and it does not replace Doppler, archive or live-image evaluation.
The current U.S. scanner price is $3,795. Essentials is displayed at $695 per year, producing $7,270 after five annual payments at today’s rate. The current $2,500 one-time selection produces a $6,295 scenario. The wider field and greater published depth create a different purchase than a 20–24 MHz face-first specialist.
This is the route for a mixed workload, not a consolation prize. Choose by the deepest target the clinic must see reliably. These equal-width lanes organize the purchase; their size does not imply measured performance or standardized penetration.
Purchasing heuristic, not a universal depth guarantee: bandwidth, array, focusing, beamforming, Doppler sensitivity, settings, contact and operator technique all affect the usable image.
What the Frequency Number Can and Cannot Tell You
Search labels often overlap. A buyer looking for high frequency skin ultrasound or high resolution ultrasound for skin is usually comparing a superficial ultrasound machine, not a HIFU platform. For aesthetic ultrasound equipment, the purchase still begins with target depth and ends with a same-target Doppler and record-workflow test.
Higher frequency trades penetration for superficial detail
Higher frequency creates a shorter wavelength and can support finer superficial detail, while attenuation rises and usable penetration usually falls. That is the defensible physics relationship. It does not turn a top-frequency label into a cross-brand image-quality score.
Using 1,540 m/s as an illustrative sound speed in soft tissue, the nominal wavelengths are about 0.103 mm at 15 MHz, 0.077 mm at 20 MHz and 0.064 mm at 24 MHz. Those are wavelength calculations, not measured axial resolution. Actual resolution depends on spatial pulse length, bandwidth, focusing and system processing.
A range and two settings are not the same specification
Clarius lists continuous-looking published bands such as 8–20 MHz. Suresult lists discrete settings such as 18/24 MHz. Those labels describe different product presentations. We would not claim that one spans, resolves or penetrates better without a common test on the same target.
MHz does not tell you

Fifteen MHz is a scoped starting threshold
A 2025 modified Delphi consensus involving 15 experts across seven specialties and 11 countries recommended a minimum linear 15 MHz transducer for learning and routine diagnostic work in cosmetic filler practice. The same consensus treated B-mode, Color Doppler, spectral Doppler and picture/video archiving as mandatory, with Power Doppler recommended. Handheld devices were acceptable.
That is a strong purchasing floor for the cited use case, not a universal legal minimum for every aesthetic or dermatologic examination. A scanner can reach 15 MHz and still fail the clinic’s slow-flow, footprint, archive or usability needs.
Published depth is not a universal penetration test
One manufacturer may publish selectable display depths while a paper reports approximate tissue penetration under another setup. Those numbers are not interchangeable. Use vendor depth as a device field, then test the real anatomy at the real depth. Specialized clinical and research systems also reach 30–70 MHz, but they differ materially from these handheld routes in form factor, field of view, penetration and purchasing context.
