We use this frequency-to-depth line to interpret the eight scanners. Higher frequency generally improves shallow detail while reducing penetration. That is why the correct facial comparison is not simply “more MHz wins.” The probe must keep the target within a useful depth range and provide the modes, archive path, and ergonomics needed in the real workflow.
The 2025 modified Delphi consensus on ultrasound in aesthetic injectables recommends a minimum linear 15 MHz transducer. It treats handheld systems as acceptable when they provide the required workflow: B-mode, Color Doppler, Spectral Doppler, and picture/video archiving, with Power Doppler recommended. That floor immediately separates the four high-frequency routes from the 12 MHz generalists for a face-first purchase.
