A breast ultrasound machine is a high-frequency linear scanner that images breast tissue, so a clinician can characterize a palpable lump at the bedside.
- The American College of Radiology asks for a center frequency of at least 12 MHz in breast ultrasound. The Suresult L14 and L14Pro run 10 and 14 MHz settings.
- Color Doppler and pulsed-wave Doppler run on every Suresult linear model on this page, with the velocity scale and color gain printed on the frame.
- In-plane and out-of-plane puncture guides sit in the app on every Suresult linear model. Needle enhance is listed on the L14Pro, L20, L20Pro, L10SH, L10H and D3Ultra, and the L10H adds visualized needle guidance.
- Depth reaches 80 mm on the L14Pro and 100 mm on the L10SH, which puts the retromammary plane and the chest wall inside the field.

Hypoechoic breast nodule at 40 mm depth
A well circumscribed oval nodule sits inside the glandular layer, wider than it is tall, with the fibrous planes running above and below it. The header reads harmonic 10 MHz, gain 68 dB, dynamic range 70.
captured at 40 mm depth, harmonic 10 MHz, gain 68 dB, dynamic range 70; frame 100 of 100 in the saved loop. On-screen header fields are demo entries. The file records the wireless linear probe family, not a specific model.
Color box placed over the same nodule
The color region of interest is drawn tight around the lesion at 7.5 MHz with the velocity scale at plus or minus 12.3 cm/s. No internal flow is displayed in this frozen frame.

Color Doppler picks up two superficial vessels beside the lesion
Red and blue pixels sit at the upper left corner of the color box, in tissue separate from the nodule, and the nodule itself carries no signal. The scale is plus or minus 12.3 cm/s at 7.5 MHz with color gain 172.

Ten-second breast tissue sweep to 55 mm
The clip runs through the fibroglandular layer and down onto the pectoral muscle, so the whole tissue thickness stays in the field. The header reads harmonic 10 MHz, gain 87 dB, dynamic range 60.
10-second clip at 10 fps, 864 x 656; 55 mm depth, harmonic 10 MHz, enhancement 4. Header fields are demo entries.
Second sweep through the same breast
The second clip crosses denser fibrous septa and shows the layers separating as the probe moves. Settings match the first sweep at 55 mm and harmonic 10 MHz.

Superficial lymph node with an echogenic hilum
A hypoechoic node shows a bright central hilum and a thin even cortex. This capture is a cervical node, and the same linear head reads axillary nodes against the same landmarks.

How the exam comes together, probe to report
Choose the linear head by frequency first. The American College of Radiology asks for a center frequency of at least 12 MHz for breast ultrasound. The L14 and L14Pro run 10/14 MHz, and the L20 series runs 16/20 MHz for shallower targets.

Check the footprint against the survey you actually do.The L14Pro and L20Pro carry a 25 mm array, while the L10SH and L10H carry 40 mm and the L10W carries 80 mm. A wider array covers a quadrant in fewer passes.
25 mm, 40 mm or 80 mm
Turn harmonic imaging on, then set depth to the chest wall. The two breast sweeps on this page ran harmonic imaging at 10 MHz and 55 mm of depth, which keeps the pectoral plane in the field. The frozen nodule frame beside this step sits at 40 mm, after the depth came back.
F: H10.0MHz, D: 40 mm
Draw the color box around the lesion, not the whole field.A tight color region of interest holds the frame rate up and keeps the velocity scale readable. The atlas frames ran the scale at plus or minus 12.3 cm/s with color gain 172 at 7.5 MHz.

What to Consider Before Buying a Handheld Ultrasound for Breast Imaging
Before you buy
Qué comprobar antes de comprar
What is the best handheld ultrasound machine for breast imaging?
The Suresult L14Pro runs 10/14 MHz on 256 elements with depth steps to 80 mm, which covers a breast survey and the chest wall.
What frequency should a breast ultrasound probe use?
The American College of Radiology states that transducers should be operated at a center frequency of at least 12 MHz, and preferably higher. Suresult publishes 10/14 MHz for the L14Pro and 16/20 MHz for the L20Pro.
How much does a breast ultrasound machine cost?
Suresult prices each linear model separately: the L14 at $2,139, the L14Pro at $3,441 and the L20Pro at $3,720, software included. Clarius lists the L15 HD3 at $3,795 and the L20 HD3 at $5,395.
Can a handheld ultrasound detect breast cancer?
A 2019 meta-analysis of 26 studies restricted to portable handheld ultrasound reported pooled sensitivity of 80.1% and specificity of 88.4% for breast cancer detection.
Does breast ultrasound replace mammography?
No. Mammography is the screening test with proven mortality benefit, and ultrasound is used alongside it or in settings where mammography is unavailable.
How much does adding ultrasound to mammography change detection?
In the J-START trial of 72,998 women aged 40 to 49, adjunctive ultrasonography raised sensitivity to 91.1% from 77.0%, and specificity fell to 87.7% from 91.4%.
Can these models guide a breast biopsy?
Yes. Every Suresult linear model carries in-plane and out-of-plane puncture guides, and needle enhance is listed on the L14Pro, L20, L20Pro, L10SH, L10H and D3Ultra. A reusable linear needle guide is listed at $464.
How accurate is ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy of the breast?
Across 94 breast lesions, ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy agreed with surgical histology in 96.8% of cases, with a false-negative rate of 1.3%.
Why does the probe footprint matter for breast scanning?
A wider array covers more tissue per sweep. The L10SH and L10H measure 40 mm across the array, against 25 mm on the L14Pro.
Can these models show color Doppler inside a breast lesion?
Yes, Suresult linear models run Color Doppler and pulsed-wave Doppler on a placeable region of interest. The two breast frames on this page show no flow inside the lesion, which is itself a reportable finding.
Can the same probe check the axilla?
Yes. The linear head that images the breast also images superficial lymph nodes, and depth to 100 mm on the L10SH and L10H reaches through axillary fat.
Is there a software subscription?
No. Suresult software for Windows, Android and iOS carries no required subscription. Clarius lists Essentials membership at $695 per year.
Does it export images into a patient record?
Yes. Every Suresult linear model exports JPEG, PNG, MP4 and DICOM, and stores cine loops of 100, 200, 500 or 1000 frames.
Which model suits a mobile or visiting breast clinic?
The L10H runs 5 hours of continuous scanning on a 5600 mAh battery and lists visualized needle guidance, which suits a clinician who scans away from a base.
Is automated breast volume scanning available on a handheld?
No. Suresult handheld models are two-dimensional linear scanners with Doppler. Automated breast volume scanning is a cart-based technology and is not offered here.
What depth should the scan start at?
A breast sweep starts at about 55 mm of depth, which keeps the pectoral plane in the field; depth is reduced once the lesion is centered.
What do competing handhelds charge for software each year?
Clarius lists Essentials membership at $695 per year or $2,500 one-time. Butterfly lists Core at $299 per year and Advanced at $420 per year.
