  • Facial arteries sit about three millimeters under the skin.

    Ultrasound in 41 healthy volunteers measured the supratrochlear artery at a mean depth of 3.34 mm and the supraorbital artery at 3.54 mm. The authors rejected the idea that injecting beside a vertical glabellar line is safe because the artery runs deep to the crease.

  • High-frequency ultrasound told filler materials apart.

    Among 94 patients scanned in the nasolabial groove, high-frequency ultrasound identified hyaluronic acid in 35 cases and polyacrylamide in 34. The authors concluded that high-frequency ultrasound has identification significance for filling materials in that area.

  • Ultrasound guidance cut the hyaluronidase dose.

    A review of 96 articles on filler vascular occlusion reported that ultrasound guidance reduced the required hyaluronidase dose by up to tenfold. The same review put early-stage ischemia as reversible in up to 80% of cases when treatment starts within four to six hours.
