Patient with right sided flank pain and CVA tenderness with hx of kidney stones. U/S was used in right flank showing moderate hydronephrosis allowing prompt referral to urology for definitive management of suspected obstructive kidney stone which was later confirmed. Very helpful to have the portable ultrasound to diagnose cause of pain, recognize hydro, and allow for prompt appropriate referral.

The L10W is a linear probe published at 7.5/10 MHz with a scanning depth range of 20-60 mm. The 10 MHz setting suits the shallowest work — superficial nerves, small vessels, skin and subcutaneous layers — while 7.5 MHz is the setting to use towards the bottom of that range.
