How the exam comes together, probe to report
Pick the head by the depth the child needs
A hip, a lung field and most soft tissue in a child sit inside 80 mm, which is linear territory at 10 to 14 MHz. A school-age abdomen needs a micro-convex or convex head to reach 160 mm and beyond.

Start near 40 mm and let the structure fill the top half of the screen before touching gain. A shallow field needs less gain, and over-gaining an infant hip buries the cartilage.
